No One Above The Law: Watson Coleman Praises Jan. 6 Committee Report

The House select committee concluded its final hearing on Monday by referring former President Donald Trump for four criminal charges.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) has praised the Jan. 6 committee’s report and recommendation.

The House select committee concluded its final hearing on Monday by referring former President Donald Trump for four criminal charges. More: Jan. 6 Panel's 'Roadmap To Justice' For Trump Recommends Charges

The panel unanimously voted to refer Trump and others on charges of obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement and conspiracy to defraud the United States by assisting, aiding or comforting those who participated in the insurrection.

“I’m grateful for the thorough, transparent, and courageous work of the bipartisan Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack. Under the leadership of Chair Bennie Thompson and Vice Chair Liz Cheney, the committee pursued the truth of the events leading up to the insurrection and attempted coup against the will of the American people,” Watson Coleman said in a statement.

The Congresswoman, a cancer survivor, tested positive for COVID-19, after she and other members of Congress were kept at a secret location during the insurrection. More: NJ Congresswoman Has COVID-19 After Sheltering During DC Lockdown

In her statement, Watson Coleman said that no one was above the law and accountability is necessary to uphold the rule of law and ensure future peaceful transfers of power.

“January 6, 2021 was a dark day for our democracy. The Committee followed the facts leading to today’s distressing but necessary referrals. Their work, along with the ongoing work of the Justice Department, will help to ensure that this never happens again,” she said.
