SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A North Brunswick man was convicted last week of following a teenage boy into the bathroom of a local South Brunswick restaurant last fall, and making inappropriate comments to him.

George Daymond Shirley, 49, of North Brunswick, was convicted by a jury last Monday, July 10 of harassment, a fourth-degree crime.

Patch reported on the incident when it happened last year, in November of 2016: Shirley followed a teenage boy into the bathroom of a restaurant on Davidson Mill Road, the name of which police did not reveal. The restaurant is on the South Brunswick/East Brunswick border. The teenager was in the process of locking a single-stall bathroom door in a restaurant when Shirley walked in, saying he needed to throw something away.

The teenager said he was using the restroom, and Shirley tapped him on the chest, saying, "Okay," according to police. The teen left, and returned again when it was empty. Shirley followed the boy a second time, and again, the boy told Shirley he was going to the bathroom. According to police, Shirley told the boy to go ahead.

This time, the boy left the restroom and told people to call police. It was the boy's father who actually detained Shirley until police arrived.
