South Brunswick, NJ - A routine traffic stop in South Brunswick Monday afternoon turned extremely dangerous, after a driver rear-ended a police car pulled over on the side of Rt. 130 South.

The officer had either pulled over, or was in the act of pulling over, a tractor trailer on Rt. 130 South between Rt. 522 and Ridge Road, Captain James Ryan told Patch. At about 1:45 p.m. the officer was in his squad car, and that's when he was rear-ended by the driver of a white sedan, seen here.

Both the officer and the driver of that car were rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Both had injuries, but neither appeared to be in life-threatening condition, Ryan said.
