SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – During last week’s Board of Education meeting, outgoing BOE members – Ray Kuehner, Joseph Scaletti and Joyce Mehta – were thanked for their time and service to the community.

Kuehner and Mehta lost their recent re-election bid while Scaletti did not run.

Board member Lisa Rodgers thanked Kuehner for his “intelligence and leadership” that helped the Board get through the year.

The board member thanked Scaletti and wished him all the best in his future endeavors.

Board member Barry Nathanson said that not many people have an understanding of how the board of education functions.

“There's a lot of ups and downs with this board. And I've heard people call it a thankless board. He (Kuehner) was my vice president. He worked very hard and has been a friend for a long time. You will be sorely missed,” Nathanson said.

He noted that Scaletti’s experience helped the Board with negotiations.

A graduate of South Brunswick High School, Scaletti thanked the community for the opportunity to serve on the Board. “I want to thank you for the trust you instilled in me,” he said. Scaletti thanked Superintendent Scott Feder and the staff of the South Brunswick School district for the work they put in during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is a phenomenal Township. And I'll miss you guys,” Scaletti said.

Although disappointed with the election results, Kuehner said it was an honor to serve on the Board.

“I worked for another school district and I hear nothing but good things about our administrators here,” Kuehner said. “I wish you the best of luck and please continue your efforts because our community needs it.”

He also had a word of advice for the incoming Board members. “I hope that the new board members coming in and those that are continuing this year take serious the position that they've been given,” he said.

“I urge you to really consider the leadership that you select. The board needs to move forward for the students of our district. All members need to serve on this board for the betterment of our district with no bias, no hidden agendas. The board needs to be united because the ones that benefit our students and our community,” Kuehner said.

In a prepared statement, Mehta too thanked the community for their support over the years.

“The welfare of our students, staff and families was the only reason I ran for the board and I will continue to be fully vested in our school district, whether on the board or as a parent or as a resident. It has been my honor and privilege to serve you and to represent the voice in this process for all concerned,” Mehta said.

The newly-elected members — Laura Hernandez, Julie Ferrara and Alisha Khan — will be taking their seats on the Board in January.
