SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Last week, South Brunswick police officers, firefighters and EMS gathered at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park to attend a mass offered in their honor.

The Church hosted the first Blue/Red prayer service to honor police officers, firefighters, and EMTs who serve the greater South Brunswick area. Around 100 people attended the mass organized by the pastor of the parish, Rev. Canon Robert G. Lynam or Fr. Bob.

During the service, South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka addressed the gathering by talking about the important relationship between the first responders.

“We are lucky to have such a great relationship between all our first responders in South Brunswick. Our strength is our partnership,” Hayducka said.

“I see so many communities around the state looking to create relationships with their faith community after a crisis has taken place. Tonight’s prayer service is a reflection of how important our faith community is to us and what we mean to them. I thank Fr. Bob and the parish for all they are doing.”

In his homily, Fr. Bob addressed the first responders and thanked them for all they do to help the community. He spoke about the challenges and tragedies they see and asked him to rely on the Lord for support and encouragement.

In attendance at the service was the South Brunswick Police Honor Guard, South Brunswick Police officers, members of the Kendall Park First Aid Squad, and firefighters from Kendall Park, Monmouth Junction, Kingston, North Brunswick, and Franklin.

After the service the parish hosted a dinner in the school cafeteria for everyone.
