Police: Woman Was Drunk When She Killed East Brunswick Man
Police say the woman was intoxicated and running a red light on Rt. 1 when she hit the man pulling out of the North Brunswick Walmart.

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A woman from Paterson was arrested Thursday and charged with causing the death of an 80-year-old man and injuring another in a fatal crash that occurred on Rt. 1 in North Brunswick shortly after midnight on September 22 of this year. Detectives with the Middlesex County prosecutor's office say she was drinking when she hit the East Brunswick man in his car, killing him.
Elizabeth Gomez, 42, of Paterson was charged with one count of vehicular homicide in the second degree and one count of assault by auto in the fourth degree. The victim, Wen-Fu Lin, 80, of East Brunswick was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A 47-year old male passenger in his car was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries.
Patch wrote about the crash when it happened earlier this fall: An investigation by Officer Jason Zier of the North Brunswick Police Department and Detective David Abromaitis of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that in the early morning hours of September 22, 2018, Gomez, who was intoxicated at the time, was driving a 2007 BMW X3 on Route 1 near Fashion Plaza Drive. She ran a red light and crashed into a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu causing the death of the driver.

In addition, Gomez received three motor vehicle summonses for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, and failure to observe a red traffic signal.
Gomez is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending her initial court appearance by video scheduled for tomorrow.
