Route 1 Lane Closure In North Brunswick Begins Friday

The NJ Department of Transportation will close the left lane on Route 1 in both directions in North Brunswick

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced lane closures on Route 1 North Brunswick in both directions beginning Friday, 9 p.m.

NJDOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt, will close the left lane on Route 1 in each direction near the Milltown Road/North Main Street/CR 606 Bridge and shift traffic to the right.

Four lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction. This traffic pattern will remain in place for around a month.

The closure is to allow construction work on Milltown Road/North Main Street/CR 606 Bridge deck over Route 1. The $8.7 federally funded project will replace the existing bridge deck. Officials said the project is being completed in stages to minimize impact to traffic.

This current construction stage is scheduled to be completed in summer 2021, after which, work will begin on the southbound side of the bridge deck, officials said.
