And that’s Rt. 1 and Promenade Blvd at about 7 a.m. Saturday, thanks to these photos Patch reader Azra Baig sent in. Have you ever seen Rt. 1 so empty? East Brunswick reported 8 inches at 6 a.m. this morning, according to the National Weather Service. Lawrence Township had 7 inches at 5:30 a.m., but it is hard to measure the snow as the wind blows it.
The storm is only going to get worse: The snow will pick up, falling faster and heavier Saturday morning into Saturday evening, falling at a rate, at times, of 1 to 2 inches an hour. South Brunswick is estimated to get 14 to 20 inches total.

The winds will pick up, with some gusts up to 60 mph. It’s now looking like the northern part of the state will get more snow than previously expected, with Essex, Hudson and Union counties now predicted to get up to 24 inches.
