Rt. 27 northbound through South Brunswick into Franklin Township will be closed and detoured for the next several months.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A big chunk of Rt. 27 northbound through South Brunswick into Franklin Township will be closed and detoured for the next several months, the New Jersey Dept. of Transportation announced Friday.

Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, May 4 Rt. 27 will be closed in both directions just south of Rt. 518/Georgetown-Franklin Turnpike. There is a detour set up.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained for local traffic. But truck and non-local traffic will be required to follow the detour.

The road will be closed as part of the Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert project, which is taking place in stages in Franklin, Somerset County and South Brunswick, said the DOT.

This is a $3.37 million federally-funded project to replace drainage pipes (culverts) that carry water underneath Rt. 27.

All the work is expected to be completed by late 2020. The two culvert replacements will occur in stages. The Carter’s Brook culvert was replaced in October 2018.
