South Brunswick Councilman Honored by Boards of Health Association

John O'Sullivan received the Local Board of Health Member of the Year award by the the New Jersey Local Boards of Health Association.

Saturday, at its annual conference, the New Jersey Local Boards of Health Association presented John O’Sullivan its Local Board of Health Member of the Year award.  Mr. O’Sullivan, a member of the South Brunswick Township Council, is the council’s liaison to South Brunswick’s Advisory Board of Health.  The award was presented by the Association’s President John Saccenti.

In presenting the award, Mr. Saccenti noted “Mr. O’Sullivan has been a constant support for his community’s health board by representing their proposals and recommendations to his township council.  He also servers on the League of Municipalities’ Legislative Committee, reviewing proposed legislation relating to community health concerns and making recommendations to the League.”      

In accepting the award, Mr. O’Sullivan said, “I am very honored to be selected for this award and grateful to learn that my efforts to promote public health issues and legislation are considered important.  I thank the members of the organization for this honor.  In the future I hope to continue to serve the public through my work with the League of Municipalities and with the South Brunswick Advisory Board of Health.”

The Member of the Year award is presented annually to a member of a local board of health who has given exceptional service to his or her community in protecting public health.

The mission of the NJ Local Boards of Health Association is to bring local public health concerns to the attention of those who are responsible for developing public health policy at the state and national levels.  It also provides a mechanism for local board of health members to communicate with each other and to access information and training that might improve their ability to lead their communities toward improved health.
