South Brunswick DPW Director Honored For 51-Year Career

South Brunswick residents can thank Ray Olsen for keeping the town tidy every day, such as leaf collection, snow removal and trash pickup.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick Township’s Director of Public Works, Raymond T. Olsen, received a special recognition award earlier this fall in recognition of his 51-year career working for South Brunswick Township.

Olsen was given the award on Nov. 21 at the annual New Jersey League of Municipalities Conference in Atlantic City.

It was given to him by the New Jersey chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA); the award was given to a longstanding employee in the field of public works. Among those in attendance at the ceremony were APWA National President Bill Spearman, APWA New Jersey Chapter President Dan Carey and NJ Dept. of Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti.

Olsen is a lifelong resident of South Brunswick and has worked for South Brunswick Township since 1968. He has been the Director of Public Works since 1995.

As the director of South Brunswick public works, South Brunswick residents can thank Olsen for keeping the town tidy on a daily basis, such as local road repaving, leaf collection, snow removal, garbage and recycling pick-up, athletic field and public parks maintenance and storm drain maintenance.

He oversees a 6-million-dollar operating budget.

In addition to his daily job duties as DPW director, Olsen is also a volunteer with the South Brunswick Township Shade Tree Commission and he is a regional vice president of the New Jersey Public Works Association, which encompasses Middlesex and Monmouth counties.
