South Brunswick Expected To Introduce Historic Landmark Ordinance Tuesday
Council is scheduled to introduce an ordinance declaring the Slack-Carroll House a historic landmark in town.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The township is expected to introduce an ordinance to declare a house in Dayton a historic landmark in town.
As reported earlier by Patch, residents from the Dayton section of the Township have urged the township to declare the Slack-Carroll House located at 354 Georges Road, a historic landmark. More: Residents Want South Brunswick To Declare This Home A Historic Site
The house is a 2.5-story, L-Plan vernacular Italianate. Dr. Clarence M. Slack, Dayton's first physician and later the Middlesex County clerk, likely built the home for himself, according to local historians.

He sold his practice to country doctor Edgar Carroll In 1887. He lived there until his death sometime around 1934. After that, the house changed ownership many times.
Years ago, Wawa had acquired the home and had planned to demolish it. The Dayton Coalition then made an agreement with Wawa to acquire the home, but it included a revert clause.

The Dayton Village Citizen’s Coalition, a nonprofit organization that works to preserve the structure, believes that declaring the site a historic landmark will give it protection and help preserve it.
