South Brunswick PD Investigating Cause Of School Chemical Smell
Around 2,900 students and staff of South Brunswick High School were out of the building Friday afternoon.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Police in South Brunswick said they continue to investigate the cause of the chemical smell from the high school, which resulted in an evacuation Friday afternoon.
Around 2,900 students and staff of South Brunswick High School were out of the building Friday afternoon after a chemical odor was reported.
In a note sent to parents and guardians, Principal Peter Varela said students reported that "pepper spray or something like that" was set off in one particular science class.

In response, the fire department was called to check the buildings to make sure it was safe. Students and staff were able to return to the building at around 1:35 p.m.
The incident is still under investigation.
