South Brunswick Reports 49 New COVID Cases From Last Week

The number of cases have risen when compared to the past few weeks. Officials say this trend mirrors what's happening nationwide.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — COVID-19 cases in South Brunswick seem to be on the rise again, said officials. This comes weeks after the township reported a drop in numbers.

This past week, 49 residents tested positive for COVID-19. In addition, 20 cases were reported from previous weeks. No new COVID-related deaths were reported.

For the week of Feb. 28 to March 6, South Brunswick reported 42 new COVID-19 cases,.

Although the reason for this increase in cases is not immediately apparent, officials say the curve of the weekly case graph appears to be closely mirroring that of the county — indicating that South Brunswick is not alone seeing rise in cases.

As more vaccines are becoming available and restrictions are beginning to ease, officials said residents need to be more vigilant.

They’ve asked residents to continue with social distancing and mask wearing.

Meanwhile, officials said that South Brunswick is one of the top three communities in the county for residents vaccinated.

According to the state, nearly 1 in 7 adults in New Jersey have received both doses of the vaccine. In the coming weeks, officials expect vaccine availability to increase as supplies increases.

Additional assistance is being provided for seniors to access the vaccine.
