South Brunswick Reports 61 New Coronavirus Cases, No New Deaths

The township remains one of the top communities in terms of vaccinations as 45 percent of local residents have gotten doses of the vaccine.

BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management reported that 61 residents tested positive over the past week.

The new caseload increases the township’s total to 2,579 total cases since the pandemic started. Local health officials said that there were no COVID-19 related deaths over the past week. The total number of South Brunswick residents to die from the coronavirus remains at 61, officials said.

Of the new cases, 25 were women, 36 men and 11 people under the age of 18.
Additionally, 20 cases were reported from previous weeks.

Statewide, there has been a 2.9 percent decrease in hospitalizations from the previous week and New Jersey state officials reported that there have been three straight days with declining hospitalizations.

As of this week, 45 percent of South Brunswick residents have been vaccinated, which makes the township one of the country’s leading communities for vaccinations. New Jersey state health officials are reporting that 2.19 million residents have been fully vaccinated.

Middlesex County saw its numbers increase to 87,830 total cases, which represents an increase of 246 over the past 24 hours, health officials said. The county also reported four new deaths, which takes the total of people lost to the coronavirus to 2,238.

The Office of Emergency Management said it continues to monitor the ongoing pandemic conditions in the township. Officials said they are hopeful for conditions to improve over the coming weeks.

Township residents are advised to continue with their CDC recommended precautionary measures like wearing a mask, avoiding crowded areas, social distancing and getting vaccinated.
