South Brunswick School Board Election: See Who’s Running In 2022

Six candidates will be running for three seats on the Board of Education.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Six candidates have filed petitions to run for three seats on the South Brunswick Board of Education, according to the Middlesex County Clerk’s office.

Incumbents Raymond Kuehner and Joyce Mehta will be running for reelection. Current member Joseph Scaletti is not seeking reelection.

Others who filed nominations are Julie Ferrara running under the slogan “Education For Success,” Laura Hernandez, Alisha Khan and James Lavan whose slogan is “Protect Our Children.”

Mehta is currently the BOE president who was embroiled in a controversy a few months ago, with many from the community calling for her resignation.

Mehta was under fire over refusing to answer direct questions on her communication with the board attorney. She later refused to resign and the BOE passed a resolution asking the New Jersey School Ethics Commission to review Mehta's conduct.

The last day to file applications to run for the BOE race was Monday 4 p.m. All candidates are seeking three-year terms.

Election in New Jersey will be held on Nov. 8.
