South Brunswick Schools Report Successful Week Of In-Person Class

The school district completed three whole weeks without a single confirmed case of COVID-19.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ : After successfully welcoming back a first group of students to school buildings, South Brunswick School District on Tuesday reported another effective week with in-person classes.

On Monday, the district welcomed students from Constable Elementary School, Crossroads North Middle School and Indian Fields Elementary, for in-person classes. The students were from the district’s K-8 special needs program.

In a message to the school community, Superintended Scott Feder said that the school district completed three whole weeks without a single confirmed case of COVID-19.

“I am happy to report that last week was a much-improved week in regard to health and safety measures. I am even more happy to report that we have concluded our third full week with no Covid-19 confirmed cases in the schools from students or staff,” said Feder.

"We initially announced that we would be reviewing our progress after three weeks. We are at the three-week mark now and already have moved the process forward due to early success in the community,” he said.

Feder praised the township for keeping COVID-19 cases suppressed, but reminded parents that the town’s “green” status has now been downgraded to “yellow” due to spikes in the state.

“While we continue to do well in the township, you probably are aware that there has been a spike in cases in the state, which has caused our "Green" status to revert back to "Yellow". The good news, however, is that the local data has remained suppressed, while our school data remains very strong,” he said.

Feder said the school district authorities are happy with the progress they’ve made and plan to move forward with their re-opening schedule.

“This means that we have the ability to continue through our Phase 4 work and plan for our next steps. We will be working on that this week and reaching out to impacted families shortly,” he said.

Last week, students from the district's K-8 special needs program came back to school for in-person classes.

The district began the school year remotely. They’ve now progressed to the limited model, where most students are learning virtually, except those who can't stay home. There are no indoor lunches, and busing is limited.
