St. Augustine Of Canterbury School Wins First Place in Rube Goldberg Machine Contest

Local Blue Ribbon School wins First Place in Rube Goldberg Machine Contest

The St. Augustine of Canterbury School Knights of the Blue Ribbon Team won First Place Saturday, March 11, in the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest held in Mineola, New York. The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest (RGMC) is an annual international competition that challenges teams of students from middle school to college age to compete in building the most elaborate and hilarious Rube Goldberg Machine. A Rube Goldberg Machine is an overly complex contraption, designed with humor and a narrative, to accomplish a simple task. The object of this year's contest was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that would apply a Band-Aid.

The St. Augustine of Canterbury Knights of the Blue Ribbon Team members worked collaboratively to design and build a machine that had 15 steps that eventually placed a Band-Aid on a baby doll. In addition to winning First Place and $1000.00, they also brought home trophies for Best Construction, Best Teamwork and Best in the Spirit of Rube Goldberg. The Team now heads for the Finals Competition on March 26 in Columbus, Ohio.

This is the first year that St. Augustine of Canterbury School (2016 National Blue Ribbon School) of Kendall Park NJ, has entered a team in this competition.
