Transformer Fire Closes Rt. 27; Traffic Lights Out
Breaking: At 2:30 p.m. a transformer fire on Rt. 27 between Alston Road and New Road was reported. Sparks and wires fell on Rt. 27.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A transformer fire and electrical wires in the roadway have caused sporadic power outages and forced the closure of Rt. 27, South Brunswick police announced a little before 3 p.m. Tuesday.
At 2:30 p.m. a transformer fire on Rt. 27 between Alston Road and New Road was reported. The wires from the transformer fell onto Rt. 27, forcing the highway to close.
Traffic lights on Rt. 1 at New Road and Whispering Wood Boulevard are currently on flash. Police are on location and only right turns can be made.

PSEG is working to fix the problem. Kendall Park Fire Department, New Jersey DOT, and South Brunswick Police are working on the incident.
