SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A shelter-in-place was placed at South Brunswick High School on Thursday morning after a trespasser came to the school looking to fight a student, according to police.

At 7:55 a.m. on Dec. 22, South Brunswick High School administrators learned that an unauthorized student from a different school district was in the school building looking to fight a student at the school, said police.

While trying to find the trespasser, school administrators with the School Resource Officer placed the school in shelter-in-place.

The juvenile was taken into custody and taken to police headquarters.

An investigation found the juvenile was able to get into the high school because a current student at the school circumvented security procedures. That juvenile also faces charges, said police.

"Today’s incident was unsettling with 2,700 students and staff having to go into lockdown. We will hold those accountable who created today’s issue," Chief Raymond Hayducka said. "I want to thank the students who first came forward to report the suspicious activity and the quick action by school administration along with the SRO."
