‘Week Of Respect’ Observed In South Brunswick Schools

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Each school year, the South Brunswick School District observes “Week of Respect” during the first week in October.
The aim of the observance is to prevent and remediate harassment, intimidation and bullying, both in-person and virtual.
The school district has planned a host of activities for the week.

At the high school, BRIDGE Center staff and students will hold programming during lunch hours that week and align chalk drawing with messages about respect.
At the middle schools, “Make Your Mark" presentation will be made for staff and students. This presentation focuses on kindness, empathy, and the "marks" left on others. It will be followed by the “One Kind Thing” activity where students will be encouraged to try one kind thing during the week for others. The district will also share a video on respect.

The district’s elementary schools will see daily morning announcements and activities created by counselors for teachers, focusing on SEL competencies and the CARES values.
New Jersey’s Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act requires that the week beginning with the first Monday in October each year be designated as the "Week of Respect."
