Willows Swim Team Captures Championship

For the first time since 2004, the Willows Swim Team won both the dual meet championship and the League championship.

The Willows swim team continued their 2011 season last week, competing in the NJSDC “B” league championships hosted by the Cedar Hill Swim Club.  On July 30, 2011, 10 swim clubs competed in the all day event.  

The top 6 swimmers earned points for their respective team. Willows sent 62 athletes and together they outscored all other teams. For the first time since 2004, the Willows Swim Team wins both the dual meet championship and the League championship! 

During the meet, the Willows had 8 swimmers earn first place titles.  The Gold medalists were Gessica Charniga in the girls13/18 200 yard IM and 100 yard butterfly, Emily Charniga in the girls 15/18 100 yard breastroke, Nicole Mnych in the 8 and under 25 yard breastroke, Justin Atkinson in the boys 13/14 100 yard backstroke, Michael Wu in the boys 11/12 100 yard IM and 100 yard freestyle, Hunter Hazard in the boys 9/10 50 yard breastroke, Chris Swierczek in the boys 11/12 50 yard backstroke and Daniel Badawy in the boys 8 and under 25 yard butterfly.

In addition, 5 of the Willows relay teams also earned a gold medal.  Three 200 yard medley relays, the  13/18 boys , with members Justin Atkinson,  Ryan Finch, Andrew Kudwitt, and Jeffrey Wu, the 13/18 girls, Amanda Stankiewicz, Emily Charniga, Christina Napoli and Gessica Charniga and the 9/12 boys, Chris Sweirczek, Bladen Lee, Michael Wu and Hunter Hazard all out swam their competition.

Also, two 200 yard free relays, the 13/18 boys, Justin Atkinson, Jeffrey Wu, Kevin Atkinson and Andrew Kudwitt and the 9/12 boys, Chris Swierczek, Hunter Hazard, Brian Hochman and Seth Weingarten came in first.
