Woman Killed In South Brunswick Crash Identified

Police named the Texas woman killed in Thursday's crash, which was caused by an out-of-state driver trying to make a left off Rt. 1.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick police identified the Texas woman killed in the Rt. 1 crash last Thursday, which was caused by an out-of-state driver trying to make a left-hand turn off Rt. 1 onto New Road. Venkataramana Tangerala, 61, from Plano, Texas was identified as the woman killed. As Patch reported last week, the crash took place at 8:58 p.m. Thursday and forced the closure of Rt. 1 northbound for two hours.

Tangerala was a backseat passenger in a 2016 Chrysler sedan, driven by Naga Remani, 37, also of Plano, which was headed southbound on Rt. 1 approaching New Road. Remani attempted to make a left-hand turn onto New Road by cutting through the divider. At this time a 2004 Mazda 6, driven by Vladimir Martinez Torres, 27, of Trenton, was traveling on Rt. 1 northbound in the left lane and had a green light. The Chrysler struck the Mazda nearly head on.

In total seven people were injured in the crash. The woman was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and succumbed to her injuries at 1:02 a.m. Friday. The driver and three passengers of the Chrysler sedan along with the driver and passenger of the Mazda were also transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. All were treated and released, with the exception of Bhaskar Vadali, 66, of Plano. He is still hospitalized with a broken hip.
