5 Hurt After Train Crashes Into Fire Truck In Jersey City (Video)

A NJ Transit Light Rail train collided with a fire truck in New Jersey Friday and five people - four of them firefighters - were hurt, officials said.

The collision happened at 7:15 p.m. near Washington Boulevard and Sixth Street near the Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City, according to NJ Transit.

At approximately 7:15 pm Friday, the light rail vehicle on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system and a Jersey City Fire truck collided, according to the agency.

There were 10 people on the light rail vehicle, along with an operator who is reporting an injury. The light rail vehicle derailed and some overhead wires were down at the scene, NJ Transit said in a statement.

Both CBS2 and NBC4 were reporting that 5 people were injured, four of them firefighters.

“I just heard a really loud bang. It sounded like metal being smacked upon metal. I saw the firemen come out the side. One was dripping with blood,” Corbin Mosby told CBS2’s Andrea Grymes.

One firefighter was said to have a broken arm and broken ribs, another firefighter suffered a leg fracture, according to CBS2. The injured were taken to Jersey City Medical Center.

“Sirens were going and everything. They were on an emergency, and I guess they thought they could make it, and they just didn’t,” a woman told 1010 WINS’ Andrew Falzon.
