Adult School Summer Program Started Monday
Almost 900 local children and teenagers have enrolled so far.
Monday was the first day of the Adult School's annual summer program, and almost 900 children and teenagers have enrolled to attend classes in creative and performing arts, academic enrichment and music, as well as morning sports camps, at South Orange Middle School over the course of the next month.
About 50 teens are serving as yellow shirt counselors, and many district teachers are doing what they love best—teaching on topics from Shakespeare to chess to wizardry to mythology. There's glass fusing and magic; balloon twisting and mask making; and animation and science exploration, with workshop themes including Crime Scene Investigations and Botball Robotics.
According to the Adult School's communications coordinator Marilyn Lehren, enrollment in the program is up from last year. Though the number of students has held steady, the quantity of courses they're enrolled in has so far gone up by 8 percent.
The summer program coordinators are Liz Lacher and Rich and Treasure Cohen.
