Afternoon of Japanese Art and Literature at South Orange Library

September 28 at 2 PM

The Friends of the South Orange Library are proud to present a very special afternoon exploring Ito Jakuchu’s “The Colorful Realm of Living Beings,” a unique group of animal and flower paintings from 18th-century Japan, guided by Barbara Tomlinson (Professor Emeritus at Kean University), who now teaches cultural history in continuing education programs and leads tours to various American and European cities, with an eye to historical and cultural context.
The program will be followed by a poetry workshop led by the poetsHolly and Ruby Scalera focusing on Haiku inspired by these paintings.
