Alleged Package Thief Caught On Video Twice In South Orange

Home video footage led to the arrest of Justin Armstrong.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A 27-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged with theft on Dec. 7, according to the South Orange Police Department.

Detectives spotted and stopped Justin Armstrong, whom they had identified as a suspect from a package theft that had occurred and been reported, police said.

Earlier in the day on South Kingman Road home security surveillance cameras had captured video footage of the theft, police said. After further investigation at the scene, officers determined that Armstrong was involved in the thefts and arrested him without incident, police said. Detectives found proceeds of the package thefts in Armstrong's possession and during a search incident to arrest, also found Armstrong to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Officers transported Armstrong to headquarters where he was processed and charged accordingly, police said. Later in the day, a South Stanley Road resident reported a similar incident where home security surveillance camera captured the theft and officers confirmed that Armstrong was the actor involved in the incident, police said.
