Arrests Made in Attempted Armed Robbery

Two young men, 18 and 19, from Orange were arrested.

Two men from Orange were arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery Thursday night.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., a 43-year-old South Orange resident who was walking near the intersection of Village Road and Tichenor Ave. was approached by two males who attempted to rob him at gunpoint but were interrupted when a police officer appeared, according to Police Chief James Chelel. The victim flagged down the officer, who started a foot pursuit of the suspects and apprehended one of them—Lawrence Boyd, 18, of Orange—on Irvington Avenue. While being chased, he allegedly discarded a firearm, a 38-caliber revolver, in a West Fairview Avenue backyard.

The second suspect wasn't apprehended at that time, though the area was cordoned off and searched with the help of Maplewood police and a K-9 unit. But two hours later, a resident phoned in a tip of having seen a suspicious person in the area, who turned out to be the second suspect, Paul Bogle, 19, of Orange.
