A counselor stepped out onto the train tracks to search for a teenage girl who ran away from a group home in Orange.
South Orange police conducted a search of the tracks by Mountain Station for a potentially suicidal teenage girl on Thursday afternoon, but it was called off when they learned that she had reappeared at the state-run facility in Orange where she currently lives.
According to Police Chief James Chelel, police responded to a call at 4:25 p.m. that a teen had run away from a group home in Orange and was possibly headed to Mountain Station to stand in front of an uncoming train. Upon arriving at the station, they saw someone on tracks, who turned out to be a counselor from the home who was looking for the teenager.
Police notified NJ Transit, which put a hold on trains, conducted a search, and were unable to find the girl. Shortly afterward, they were notified that she had turned up back at the group home.
