Bear Stays Tree-Bound, Despite Lure of Doughnuts

Police ranger tries to lure 350-lbs. animal down with doughnuts.

Police Rangers were attempting to lure a bear out of a tree late Sunday afternoon on Black Oak Ridge Road between Jackson Avenue and the entrance to Route 23 in Wayne.

Police Ranger Barry Bogert said the bear was reported to be in the tree at about 4 p.m.. Bogert estimates the bear weighs approximately 350 pounds. 

Bogert placed boston creme doughnuts at the base of the tree to entice the bear down but the bear has remained on the same few branches since shortly before 5 p.m.

Bogert said he was not sure which direction the bear came from.
