'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Star Takes The Stage In South Orange

Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Captain Holt wants people catch his portrayer Andre Braugher in a play at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Huzzah. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine's" Captain Raymond Holt took to Twitter encourage people to see his portrayer, Andre Braugher in the world premiere production of "Tell Them I’m Still Young," by Julia Doolittle, at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.

The show is scheduled to run Jan. 24 through Feb. 3 and features Braugher and Michele Pawk who portray a professor and a poet whose marriage is shaken when tragedy strikes. As they grapple with the aftermath, a lover from the past and an ambitious graduate student enter their lives.

“I am thrilled that these two outstanding actors will take part in our production.” said American Theater Group Producing Artistic Director James Vagias. “Andre and Michele bring a fantastic chemistry to their roles, and I think our audiences are going to love the play and their performances.”

Braugher is best known for his television roles of Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life on the Street, Owen Thoreau, Jr. in Men of a Certain Age and Raymond Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Braugher told Donny Levit at NJ Next that the writing drew him to the play.

“It’s such a beautiful play and it has such interesting and mature roles in it,” he said in the report. “For fiftyish or sixtyish actors, these are really dynamite roles.”

Tony Award winner Michele Pawk, whose Broadway credits include Hollywood Arms, Hairspray, Losing Louie, Mamma Mia, Chicago, Seussical and more, has a career brimming with performing, directing and teaching achievements.

“She’s such an outstanding actress and so accomplished,” said Braugher told NJ Next.

"Tell Them I’m Still Young" by Julia Doolittle will play Jan. 24-Feb 3. Tickets are $35-$39 and can be purchased online here or by calling the box office at (973) 313-2787. There will be an audio-described performance on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m.
