Burglary Suspects Lead South Orange Cops On Foot Chase
Two separate burglaries were recently reported in South Orange, including an incident involving a police chase.
SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Two burglaries were recently reported in South Orange, police say.
The South Orange Police Department released details about two separate incidents that recently took place in the township:
March 21 – “Officers responded to Montrose Avenue on a report of an attempted burglary in progress. Officers arrived on scene and observed a vehicle idling in front of the residence and one suspect fleeing the area. The vehicle was secured and later found to be a stolen vehicle from Newark. Two more suspects were seen fleeing the area through backyards. Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspects. A second call came in to police headquarters relating the same individuals had returned to the scene. Units responded back to the area and after a foot pursuit, two of the three individuals were caught and taken into custody. The two actors were arrested processed and taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility [in Newark] without incident. Entry was not gained to the residence, but there was damage to a window in which the actors were attempting to gain access through.”

March 30 – “Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Crest Drive after a homeowner reported an intruder inside the home. The suspect fled through a window and was last seen leaving the area in a white SUV. No items were reported stolen, and the investigation is an ongoing multijurisdictional investigation.”
