Rutgers IJS & Greg Burrus Present Gemini Celebration feat the LA Black Art Distrikt and Katalys

Event Details
Black Art Distrikt is a boundary-pushing collective born in Leimert Park during the pandemic, featuring some of Los Angeles’ most dynamic improvisers and modern jazz musicians. Founded by percussionist Ahmad DiBose Dawson of Katalyst, the ensemble blends free jazz, fusion, soulful grooves, and live instrumental experimentation into immersive performances rooted in the Black creative tradition of LA.
Beyond the stage, Black Art Distrikt has helped drive several of Southern California’s vibrant live music platforms, including Jazzin’ Compton, Atwater Jazz Club, Everything Raw, and Sound Suite LA’s Live Music Soirée.
For this special engagement, the group would feature Zacchae'us Paul, the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer signed to Candid Records. Blending Southern hip-hop, gospel, Caribbean rhythms, and jazz improvisation, Zacchae’us is one of the most exciting emerging voices in contemporary Black music. His debut album JAZZ MONEY, executive produced by Terri Lyne Carrington, explores themes of Black spirituality, history, and liberation through a bold, genre-defying lens.
Together, Black Art Distrikt and Zacchae’us Paul would bring a powerful statement in progressive jazz with a sound for today—an adventurous, soulful, and deeply engaging performance perfectly suited for Clement's Place.
