Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month 2023 with Gregory Burrus Productions

JAZZ APPRECIATION MONTH

This April, jazz up for a month to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) to honor one of America’s earliest and iconic art forms. Rich with extraordinary heritage and cultural history, jazz music originated in the blues era in the early 20th century and bestowed the world with bebop tunes to which we can dance all night. Jazz Appreciation Month (fondly known as "JAM") was created at The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in 2001 to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz for the entire month of April. JAM is intended to stimulate and encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz - to study the music, attend concerts, listen to jazz on radio and recordings, read books about jazz, and more.

Each year they produce a beautiful set of artwork to represent Jazz Appreciation Month

This year’s 2023 poster artwork comes from the museum’s LeRoy Neiman collection and is a sketch of trumpeter Miles Davis created during or soon after Davis’s July 5, 1981, performance at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, New York.
