CHS Student Charged with Disorderly Conduct
Maplewood teen arrested after brandy-fueled basketball game outburst.

The scene described by a recent Maplewood police report seems like a public service announcement intended to fight substance abuse brought to life. Like the one on TV now where the kid leaves his shadow on the basketball court because he tried marijuana.
On Feb. 17, at around 6:30 p.m., Maplewood police officer Robert Smith reportedly saw a 17-year-old Maplewood resident shouting obscenities while trying to get in on a basketball game at Columbia High School. According to the report, Smith became the target of the youth’s tirade when he approached the hotheaded hoopster.
After Smith arrested the youth, he reportedly detected an odor of alcohol on the boy’s breath. A search reportedly revealed the teen was carrying a part-empty bottle of brandy, and the teen was charged with disorderly conduct, underage possession of an alcoholic beverage and possession of an alcoholic beverage on school property before being released into the custody of a parent.
