Your mind keeps racing. Work follows you home. Or you feel a heaviness you cannot quite explain.
You may be managing your responsibilities while privately feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Perhaps a difficult conversation leaves you carrying hurt or anger long after it ends.
In my Montclair practice, I offer individual therapy, including Brainspotting when appropriate, to help you give these experiences thoughtful attention. Together, we can gently make room for feelings you may have become accustomed to pushing through.
What Is Brainspotting?
Developed by psychotherapist David Grand, Ph.D., Brainspotting brings attention to eye position, emotions, and physical sensations within a supportive therapeutic relationship. There is room to talk, notice, and pause without needing to explain every feeling as it comes up.
Our goals might include feeling more at ease with yourself, being more present outside work, or responding to relationship difficulties with less emotional overwhelm. Each person’s experience is different, and we work at a pace that fits your needs.
My Services Include:

Individual Therapy for Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Stress & Trauma

Brainspotting

Individual Therapy Intensives

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)

Marriage Counseling for Conflict, Disconnection & Infidelity

Private Couples Therapy Intensives

Discernment Counseling for Couples Unsure About Staying Together

Holding everything together, but feeling anxious inside?...

Does your partner shut down when you try to have an important conversation?
When one partner goes quiet, looks away, or withdraws during conflict, it can feel like they do not care.
But sometimes what looks like coldness is actually emotional overwhelm.
At Stevette Heyliger, LPC, we provide couples counseling, marriage therapy, and relationship intensives for individuals and couples in Montclair, NJ and surrounding Essex County communities.
Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, we help couples understand the deeper emotional patterns underneath communication breakdowns. When one partner pursues connection and the other retreats, both people can end up feeling misunderstood and alone.
Our Services Include:
• Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, or EFT
• Marriage Counseling for Disconnection, Conflict and Infidelity
• Private 3 Day Couples Therapy Intensives
• Discernment Counseling for Couples on the Brink
• Individual Therapy for Relationship Anxiety, Trauma and Self Worth
As an EFT practitioner, I help couples move beyond repeated arguments and emotional shutdown to understand what is happening underneath their reactions.
The goal is not to decide who is the problem.
The goal is to create enough emotional safety for both partners to become more accessible, responsive, and connected.
💬 Wondering why your partner shuts down instead of speaking up?
