Columbia High School Evacuated In Essex County

A smoke odor in several classrooms spurred the school evacuation, a report says.

A smoke odor in several classrooms at Columbia High School in Maplewood caused a temporary evacuation on Thursday.

The school’s fire alarm was activated at 11:20 a.m., and students were cleared to return to class before noon.

CHS Principal Elizabeth Aaron said that the evacuation was caused by an odor connected to smoke in several classrooms, Essex County Place reported.
