Cops Offer $5K Reward For Killer Of Wheelchair-Bound Essex County Man

Authorities say that Ernest Matthews, 25, was shot and killed in front of his home.

Essex County authorities are offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the fatal shooting of Newark resident Ernest Matthews.

According to a Wednesday news release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Matthews, 25, who was in a wheelchair, was shot and killed on Sept. 20, 2015, in the 200 block of Irvine Turner Blvd. in Newark in front of the apartment building where he resided.

The investigation has been active and ongoing since the shooting, authorities stated.

The Essex County Sheriff's Crimestoppers Program is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
