Editor's Notebook: Mother's Day Brunch
Some local brunch options that still have reservations open.
For those of you who make your plans last minute, here are a couple of very local places still taking reservations for Mother's Day brunch. I'll add to this list if/when I hear back from places. I've heard that Papillon has a lovely brunch, but I wasn't able to get through to a live person when I called the main number.
- Eden Gourmet has a brunch in the second-floor dining room from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and already has 110 reservations but can accept a few more, according to marketing director Lia Battista. There will be a buffet ($24.95 for adults and $14.95 for children) with offerings including fruit, smoked salmon, vegetable crudite, shrimp cocktail, artisanal breads, waffles, scrambled eggs, penne vodka, tilapia, and salmon and crab strudel. Desserts include Black Forest cake, carrot cake and apple pie. The brunch is a BYO, and reservations are required and can be made by calling 973-762-5200 until 5 p.m. on Saturday. All mothers get free roses.
- Cryan's has a brunch ($15.95 for adults and $7.95 for children 12 and under) with two seatings at 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. Reservations are accepted, but walk-ins will also be seated. A super smorgasbord ($18.95 for adults and $7.95 for children 12 and under) starts at 3:30 p.m., which is a buffet with extra offerings plus a special dinner menu. The earlier buffets also have carving stations and seafood but are more breakfast-focused, with omelet stations, bagels and danishes.
- The Gaslight is touting its own Mother's Day special menu, though we're not sure whether they have any empty seats. Call 973-762-7077 to find out.
