2nd Annual Mayapple Festival

The public is invited to the second annual South Mountain Reservation Mayapple Festival on Saturday, May 21st.  Sponsored by the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs, the South Mountain Conservancy, and local businesses, the event will feature activities for the entire family throughout the day at Summit Field.  These include hikes, a nature-themed art show and exhibits, and well-known local musical performers, raffles for camping equipment, and a food consession.   In addition, an ultra-marathon and other long-distance trail races will start from the Locust Grove Picnic area. 

The festival’s events will take place as follows::

Location:        Essex County South Mountain Reservation
 Summit Field (Directions:  From South Orange Ave. turn onto Crest Drive for half mile, follow signs for parking.)                                              

Events:           Hikes at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

                        Art Show 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

                                   

Live Music:

Headliner: Livingston Leo, 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.

West Orange’s Dean Shot, blues combo, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Millburn’s Dean Russo, acoustic guitar, 12:30 p.m.

 

Location:        Essex County South Mountain Reservation

Locust Grove Picnic Area (off Glen Ave., Millburn)        

 

            Events:           Ultra-Marathons, 100K and 50K, 6:00 a.m. start

                                    10 and 20 mile trail races, 8:00 a.m. start

                                    (Registration closes Wednesday, May 18th.  No fee.)
