10-11 a.m.  ARCHITECTURE: MODERNISM IN THE GARDEN STATE


DR. GABRIELLE ESPERDY is an architectural historian and Associate Professor of Architecture at NJIT, where she examines the intersection of architecture, consumerism and modernism. Her blog, at esperdy.net, is an ongoing project to explore and critically analyze buildings and places that form the cultural bedrock of the U.S.

11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. APPLIED ETHICS: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE INDIFFERENT


DR. ARTHUR DOBRIN, Professor of   University Studies, Hofstra University, teaches courses in business ethics, media ethics, personal ethics and human rights. Dr. Dobrin is the author and editor of more than 20 books. This year a book of short stories will be published in Bangla in Bangladesh and a novel, set in Kenya, will be published in Nairobi.

1-2 p.m. 18TH CENTURY INTELLECTUAL HISTORY: "WHY THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS?"

DR. ALAN CHARLES KORS is the Henry Charles Lea Professor of European History at the University of Pennsylvania. He specializes in European Intellectual history of the 17th and 18th centuries. He has won the Lindback Award and the Ira Abrams Memorial Award for distinguished college teaching and several national awards for the defense of academic freedom.


2:15-3:15 p.m. MUSIC EDUCATION: CHANGING LIVES: THE POWER OF MUSIC EDUCATION


PROFESSOR TRICIA TUNSTALL is a writer and music educator who researches El Sistema in Venezuela and in the United States. She lectures frequently on El Sistema-related subjects, most recently at the Carnegie Hall/Julliard sponsored Academy and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has taught music history and appreciation at Drew University and Bergen College.
