Enroll Now: Summer School For Adults

Why should kids have all the fun this summer? The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School is presenting summer classes to help adults get fit, both in mind and spirit, performing arts, and computers. You can learn a new language or survival skills in the woods.

The summer schedule in now available online and registration has begun @ www.somadultschool.org 

Most classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, June 22-July 22, at South Orange Middle School, 70 N. Ridgewood Road, South Orange. The classes are open to adults and teenagers age 14 and up.

This summer, a weekend adventure to the Berkshires is planned on July 23-July 25. Concerts at Tanglewood feature pianist Peter Serkin and Lynn Harrell on cello.

For those planning to travel aboard, the Adult School is offering language classes in Italian and Spanish for beginners

In the meantime, there's plenty for adults to explore here at home. New this summer is two gardening classes: Summer perennials and vegetable gardening. With SOMbike, the Adult School is offering a class on cycling, including basic repairs, adjustments, and safety.

In the creative arts, the Adult School is offering acrylics painting, beaded jewelry, black and white photography, nature photography, drawing, arts master class, upholstery, and Writers Circle. In the performing arts, "How to Read Music" and "Joy of Singing" are being presented.

Computer classes include "Getting Started With Computers," Excel, and an on-line class on designing Web sites. Driver's ed offers defensive driving and "Behind-the-Wheel" driving training.

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are being offered for foreign-born adults who wish to learn or improve their English.

Recreation and fitness classes include golf, jazzercise, orienteering, fitness training, tennis, and Yoga. Personal training and spinning all offered with Can Do fitness center in Short Hills. (Summer Zumba begins May 15).

For children, registration for a summer academic, creative arts and sports camp is continuing. The camp will run June 28-July 23 at South Orange Middle School.
