Story To College Base Camp course

On May 25, 2011, from 4-7pm, Morristown-Beard School will host New Jersey’s first Story To College Base Camp course, teaching high school sophomores and juniors how to write authentic, powerful college application essays in their own voice.

The 3-hour workshop is based on small group exercises where each student develops two of their own stories and learns tools to be used throughout their college application essays, interviews, and financial aid applications. Students also receive access to an online tool kit to support them as they complete their applications.

South Orange resident Carol Barash, PhD launched Story To College in 2010 to empower high school students to take control of their college application essays, using a proprietary set of tools adapted from corporate consulting and tailored specifically for high school audiences. Story To College uses oral storytelling to help high school juniors and seniors break down “the wall” many of them describe between their life experience and their college application essays.

Story to College also offers longer programs, some with a video component, for students seeking further guidance in the writing process and with in-person interviews.
