Family Storytelling Night at South Mountain School
Scores of South Mountain families attended the annual celebration of reading.
"It's a really good night because it shows kids how fun reading can be," said Sylvia Cutler, co-president of the South Mountain School PTA.
Cutler was talking about the annual South Mountain School Family Storytelling Night, which was held on Thursday.
The event, attended by South Mountain students (many of whom were dressed in PJs), parents and teachers, was organized around the theme of giving, as families were encouraged to donate gently-used books for the Project ReRead: Free Books for Children's Literacy Program.

"I think it's fantastic because it's a family activity, and the community can come together," said Kimberly Minor, a parent who welcomed families to the event.
Parents and teachers read different books to South Mountain students including "Curious George" and "Charlie Hits it Big." Plus, a group of fifth graders read to kindergartners and first graders.

Students were also able to have a snack in the cafeteria and work on a craft for kids with cancer. In addition, books were available for purchase throughout the evening at the 5th Grade Used Book Sale.
"I love listening to the storytellers... Everybody is having a good time," said Principal Tina Lehn, who led an interactive reading with students.
