FD Extinguishes Meadowbrook Lane Fire

The call came in shortly before 10 a.m.; the home has been deemed uninhabitable.

Firefighters extinguished a third-floor blaze in a Meadowbrook Lane home on Monday morning, and four residents were treated for smoke inhalation.

According to South Orange Fire Chief Jeffrey Markey, the call came in shortly before 10 a.m., and he observed heavy smoke rolling across the street when he arrived on the scene. He learned that a man was still on the second floor and entered the house with Officers Terry O'Connor and Rich Butler of the South Orange Police Department to escort him outside. Three other residents were already outside.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the third floor was completely burned out before the blaze was extinguished, and the house has been deemed uninhabitable. The residents are being connected with Red Cross, Chief Markey said.
