When firefighters arrived at the scene around 9 p.m., they removed two women and a dog from the smoke-filled residence. The fire department radio initially reported that another dog had died in the fire, but fire officials say they located the dog on the second floor of the residence. An early-morning look at the two-story ranch house shows evidence of the night's blaze. There is a hole in the roof, two living room windows now covered in plastic, and a mattress that was apparently tossed from a charred second-floor window. A faint smell of smoke remains. The house is uninhabitable.
