Saturday morning fire started in the heating ducts.
On Saturday morning, the South Orange Fire Department responded to a fire on West Third Street at Gaslight Commons.
According to a report provided by Fire Chief Jeff Markey, firefighters responded to an activated sprinkler alarm and arrived to find the fire had been extinguished by the sprinkler in the room that holds the HVAC Heating System. The sprinkler system was shut down and drained to prevent any further water damage to the apartment building.
A total of nine apartments were affected, mostly obtaining water damage. The building’s owner was advised to have their sprinkler maintenance company come in and test and restore the system.
