Good Riddance: SOFD Trailers Removed

After seven years, the last trace of the fire department's 'temporary' housing is gone.

After seven years in South Orange, the trailers that housed the South Orange Fire Department while its headquarters was renovated were removed in two days.

Removal began on Monday, when one trailer was taken away, and completed by Tuesday afternoon.

What remains is a small parking lot, some stray weeds, and a few traffic cones.

The photos show the progress from Monday, when the southern trailer was removed, to Tuesday, when both trailers were gone.

After a renovation period that was far longer than predicted, in part because asbestos was discovered in the old building, the fire department moved into its renovated facility two weeks ago.
