'ICE Out Of NJ': South Orange Protesters Rally In Solidarity With Minneapolis
The demonstration included speakers and a visibility brigade protest along the avenue.
SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — More than 100 people rallied in downtown South Orange last week at an “ICE Out For Good” rally in solidarity with the residents of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The impromptu rally took place in Spiotta Park on South Orange Avenue and Village Plaza on Friday. The demonstration included speakers and a visibility brigade protest along the avenue.
According to local advocacy group SOMA Action, protesters gathered to demand an end to the “lawless brutality that ICE and Border Patrol are unleashing upon the residents of Minneapolis and in communities around the country.”

“We mourn with MN,” the group wrote. “We stand with MN. And we'll keep fighting with MN, and with all of those impacted by this relentless terror campaign.”
The national day of action came in the wake of the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Jeffrey Pretti. Federal authorities have claimed that the shootings are justified and were borne out of self-defense.
