The Rev. Eyesha Marable and Gregory Burrus chronicled the launch of the 2024 memorable and inspiring Jesus and Jazz event series over the past six months.

The Sunday service was a beautiful synchronized message, from all who spoke and engaged us. The host Pastor, Rev. Eyesha Marable welcomed the Rev Dr. Alfonso Wyatt, a published author, a public theologian, and an ordained Elder on the ministerial staff of The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York. He spoke on his book, "Beware The Mind Hustler," which focuses on the mind identifying self-destructive thoughts and distractions, which was written to aid people trying to rebuild their lives and overcome the relentless pull to return to a lifestyle governed by destructive relationships, situations, and things. This extremely poignant message dovetailed nicely with a wonderful health message that was delivered by mental health professional, Laverne Williams.

The jazz music was simply beautiful and "was delivered according to protocol," according to Dr. Wyatt. The magic of Phil Bingham’s virtuosic jazz piano technique, rich timbre, and harmonic jazz style was complemented by the brilliant Grammy-winning producer and bassist John Lee, Dizzy Gillespies' bassist for 11 years, who is known for his deeply swinging sound and role in the bebop jazz movement.

In addition, we were treated to the sounds and sophistication of world-renowned drummer and bandleader Winard Harper, an exceptional percussionist and vocalist Lynette Sheard, with her supple, powerful, mellow, and beautiful timbre.

The service was filled with unforgettable memories, and there is nothing more gratifying than a packed, standing room only audience that sang, clapped, and thoroughly enjoyed the musicians. To culminate the experience, we enjoyed a scrumptious meal thanks to Pangea Catering service.

Due to popular demand over the past six months, Jesus & Jazz will continue on the following 4th Sunday's at 11:30 AM in 2024: 9/22, 10/27, 11/24, 12/22 and 2025, 1/26, 2/23, 3/23, 4/27, 5/25, and 6/22. All are welcome to join us.
